THE ART

Rugs
At Rugvine, we're not just making rugs; we're weaving stories. Join us in our colorful adventure!
Charka
At the first stage, the wool transforms into yarn by the Katwaris, artisans who intertwine its fibers, eliminate impurities and tangles, and honor centuries of Indian heritage on a charka, a spinning wheel. This traditional method ensures the wool is of high quality, preparing it for further crafting processes. The charka not only aids in creating fine yarn but also symbolizes the rich cultural heritage of Indian craftsmanship, passed down through generations.
Dyeing
At the second stage, the yarn is wound on a wheel-like frame, dipped, and placed in boiling vats of dye to embed its intended color. After dyeing, the yarn is hung to dry in the sun. This process ensures that the dye penetrates the fibers thoroughly, resulting in vibrant and long-lasting colors.
Nakshas
At the third artisans use paper called nakshas to trace design blueprints, These detailed blueprints guide the creation of intricate patterns in carpet making. Nakshas helps artisans in a process resembling embroidery that is called tufting.
Tufting
In the fourth step, skilled artisans sit behind frames with a net-like backing, tightly stretched, and punch wool through in a process similar to embroidery known as 'tufting'. This method allows for the creation of intricate designs and patterns, contributing to the overall quality and durability of the finished product. Tufting requires precision and expertise, ensuring that each tuft is consistently placed to achieve the desired texture and appearance.
Backing
In the fifth step, the rug undergoes backing, where it is attached to a cloth backing with the edges neatly tucked in. This process ensures the rug's stability and durability, giving it a polished, finished look. The backing reinforces the rug, helping it maintain its shape and withstand regular use, thereby enhancing the overall quality and longevity of the handcrafted piece.
Washing
Washing is the next stage, transforming the carpet into a stunning work of art. This washing cycle establishes the final texture of the piece and infuses the carpet with vibrancy and a soft lustre. Through careful washing, the colors become more vivid, and the fibers attain a smooth, luxurious finish. This essential step enhances the carpet's aesthetic appeal and overall quality, ensuring it meets the high standards of traditional craftsmanship.
Gultarash & Test
Gultarash is the next stage, creating a high-low effect that makes the patterns pop out. Today, this technique is used to highlight motifs or patterns and to create a textural effect. It involves carefully shearing the carpet to different levels, enhancing the visual and tactile appeal. After gultarash, the carpets are thoroughly tested to ensure they meet quality standards before being shipped.
